Women of Purpose

Prevent the Exploitation and Trafficking of Women and Children

Human Trafficking Prevention World Concern’s Women of Purpose links North American women with poor, marginalized women in some of the poorest countries in the world, bringing healing, restoration, opportunity and freedom.

Here’s how you can combat poverty fight human trafficking and prevent victimization of the world’s poorest women and children:

Know the plight of Women in Poverty
From the villages of Kenya to the slums of Bangladesh, women and girls suffer the most from poverty and lack of opportunity. Disadvantaged due to customs and laws, they are vulnerable to starvation and illness, loan sharks and traffickers. As they seek to feed their families, they can be conned by promises of quick loans and well-paid factory or domestic work. But this is often a trap, and many get caught in a nightmare of exorbitant debt, blackmail, prostitution, and even slavery. World Concern is working to change this, one life at a time.

Commit to Women of Purpose
Join the Women of Purpose team working to reach vulnerable women and children with Life, Opportunity and Hope. Choose a country or project focus and put your talents to work raising awareness, funds and prayer. We will supply information, stories, prayer bulletins, and project updates to keep you informed and connected to the communities you commit to help.

Advocate for Impoverished Women and Children
Pray for them; share your knowledge and passion with other women; advocate for poor women around the world; and help raise funds for micro-lending, education, safe haven and rescue programs, child sponsorship, or orphans and vulnerable children.

Give to Women of Purpose
As women in North America, we are extraordinary blessed. Most of us have ample food, shelter, and access to education. As a Woman of Purpose, spread the word about the plight of women in extreme poverty to people within your circle of influence.

Every $140 gift to Women of Purpose provides one woman with a loan and training to start her own business; $40 provides tuition and books for one girl for one year; $230 brings awareness training for communities at risk for trafficking and $89 provides essential care for one AIDS orphan.

A success - the 2009 Women of Purpose conference

Women of PurposeWomen from around the Seattle area learned about what it means to be a woman of purpose. The event on Oct. 9 and 10 was held on the campus of CRISTA Ministries, World Concern's parent organization.

Women of Purpose will hold another similar conference in the future, likely the same time next year. The goal is to motivate people who have a passion to help vulnerable and exploited women and children.

The Women of Purpose conference offers:

  • Informative workshops
  • A closer look at the heart of World Concern
  • Stories from the front lines of our ministry
  • Practical ideas you can implement
  • Time to interact with others who are taking action to make a difference

Check in closer to the 2010 to see more details. In the meantime, you can get involved with Women of Purpose right away! E-mail Sarah Leech (address above).
