Please Pray for the Horn of Africa Drought Crisis
Following multiple seasons of failed rains (including April 2022), the Horn of Africa is facing the very real threat of famine. Two countries where World Concern is present and has active programs, Somalia and Kenya, are directly impacted by the drought and need persistent prayer and immediate intervention to avoid catastrophic loss of life.
A staggering 4.9 million people in Somalia are affected by extreme, prolonged drought, and 1.5 million children are severely malnourished.
Similar multi-season drought conditions led to the 2011 famine in which an estimated 260,000 people died from hunger-related causes.
Abdinasir is a 28-year-old husband and father in Somalia. He and his pregnant wife and two children were forced to flee their home because the drought has destroyed all their crops and they had no food. They were headed on foot to a camp for displaced families when their youngest son, Ahmed, died of starvation.
“My little boy was too weak to finish the journey here with us,” said a grieving Abdinasir. “I had to bury him along the way…”
Please pray for Abdinasir, his wife, their new baby and 4-year-old daughter. Please pray for the families like theirs who are suffering and hungry and have lost all hope.
Pray for rain to come to the Horn of Africa abundantly, unexpectedly, and quickly.
Pray for provision for children and families who are hungry and suffering.
Pray for wisdom and support for our staff and the many other humanitarian orgs working in this region.
Pray for an outpouring of generosity from donors, and from the global community, to help prevent widespread famine in the region.
Pray for God’s Spirit to fall on this area and for Him to draw many to a relationship with Him in and through this crisis.
Pray for an end to conflict and clashes that prevent lifesaving aid from reaching those who need it most.
Pray for children to be fed, to survive, and to be able to return to their homes, schools, and live in safety and health.
Thank you for joining us in prayer for these crises in some of the hardest places in the world right now. God bless you.
