Who We Serve

Children are the most vulnerable victims of poverty, malnutrition and disease. Many are also illiterate, which prevents them from ever being able to earn a wage above the poverty level. Women living in this male-dominated society have less access to education and fair credit, yet are often the sole providers of their families.

How We Help

Since 1976 World Concern has worked in Bangladesh through programs that attack extreme poverty at its roots, bringing hope for a better future to the country’s poorest.

  • Education Education

In rural areas and urban slum communities, World Concern is providing educational opportunities to poor and marginalized children as well as hearing impaired children, filling the gap where there was no access to public education.

  • Microfinance Microcredit

Opportunities to improve one’s economic situation are scarce, especially for women and poor families in rural areas. Through World Concern, more than 6,000 women and many others in rural Bangladesh are now actively involved in small business training programs and microloans.

  • HealthHealth

Diseases like diarrhea and typhoid run rampant in the slums. World Concern provides treatment, health education, and preventative services to the most vulnerable, especially adolescent girls, pregnant mothers, and children under 5 years of age.

  • Vocational TrainingFish Farming

Since 1993, World Concern has assisted rural fish farmers in farming techniques to increase their income and supplement their diet. Small entrepreneurs are then able expand their farms and create employment opportunities for the local poor and unemployed.

  • Disaster Risk Reduction Disaster Risk Reduction

Through training, awareness, and improving infrastructure, we are helping communities prepare for natural disasters. These activities are helping communities become safer and more resilient.

At World Concern, we feel called to serve in some of the poorest, most remote, hard-to-reach places in the world. Places with little or no infrastructure or resources to help the people who live there. If your calling is to reach out to the “least of these,” then you’ve come to the right place.
