World Concern Announces Passing of Bangladesh Country Director

September 30, 2019 (SEATTLE) – We are deeply saddened to share the passing of World Concern’s beloved Bangladesh Country Director, Prodip Dowa. Prodip passed away suddenly on Monday, September 30, 2019, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was 62 years old.

Prodip was an influential leader, known and loved by many in Bangladesh, the U.S., and around the world. He was a man of great faith who exuded joy in his life and interactions with others. Indeed, when speaking with Prodip one came face-to-face with the kindness and humility of Jesus.

Prodip was recently honored at World Concern headquarters for 25 years of service as Bangladesh Country Director. Throughout those years, he lived out his calling and passion to serve the poor with grace and humility. His work, and the work of his staff of more than 300, has touched the lives of millions of men, women, and children, transforming entire communities in Bangladesh from poverty to an abundant life. Prodip earned the deep admiration and respect of his staff in Bangladesh who affectionately called him “Dada.”

Under Prodip’s leadership, World Concern’s microcredit program in Bangladesh was formed and grew to become a $5 million self-sustaining program. Other programs that were established under his leadership and are now thriving include expanding access to education for children, child protection, small business training and economic development, disaster risk reduction, disaster response, and One Village Transformed.

“We are shocked by the loss of this incredible man, too suddenly gone from us,” said World Concern Vice President Nick Archer. “Prodip lived the life of a faithful servant of Christ, a life that gave life to others through the many programs that Prodip started. Our hearts go out to his family, and our Bangladeshi staff. His work will live on through the great team he has left behind—this is how we will honor his memory.”

World Concern asks for prayer for Prodip’s family and loved ones during this time.
