Allaguei

Chad

This is Allaguei

Deep in the landlocked country of Chad’s southern tropical savannah region is the village of Allaguei, home to 118 families who live in extreme poverty. The village consists of 95% Muslim families and some Christians who enjoy good relations with each other, despite their different religions.

Families here feed and support themselves by growing small crops, raising animals, and occasionally fishing. Farming is challenging, as the region is prone to both frequent drought and seasonal flooding, as well as pests that destroy crops. There is no local market for farmers to sell their produce.

Health issues and sickness plague children and families here, who suffer from malaria and frequent water-borne illnesses. Very few children in the village attend school, and sadly, child marriage is common, with girls as young as 12 being married off to much older men.

The families of Allaguei village are ready for change. With your support, they will experience lasting transformation and a bright future for themselves and the next generation.

Ache’s Story

Desperate Times for a Young Widow and Mother

Ache lives in Allaguei Village, located in the southern tropical region of the landlocked nation of Chad. The village is home to 118 families who live in extreme poverty.

Families in Allaguei feed and support themselves by growing small crops, raising animals, and occasionally fishing. Ache is a member of the Agricultural Group, and she works hard as a farmer. It is difficult to make an income with farming where she lives because the region is prone to both frequent drought and seasonal flooding, as well as pests that destroy crops. There is no local market to sell produce.

With so many obstacles to earning a sufficient income, Ache continues to work hard because she has six children to feed. She is 26 years old, and her husband died from a snake bite, leaving her alone and without any support from his family or other resources.

Living in extreme poverty, without enough income to feed her children, could make Ache desperate, but she relies on God to provide for her family. She is an example of the woman written about in 1 Timothy 5:5 ...

“The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.”

Ache said, “Something I appreciate about the work of World Concern is that when you came to our village people were not very united, but now they have one heart and one vision for the transformation of the village.”
