Located in the far Northeastern corner of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burang’a Village is home to a little more than 3,000 individuals. While the population is made up of several different tribes, residents here enjoy a peaceful life together. Most families here find their livelihoods through agriculture, with the main crops being bananas, sweet pasta, cassava, beans, sorghum, peanuts and also vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, onions and tomatoes.

However, life here is not without extreme challenges.

Though the people are more than willing to work and farm, the land is difficult to tend to, and much of it is barren due to drought-like conditions. Without the proper materials to make the most of their hard work, the people of Burang’a are left with little to live on, and poverty runs rampant. What’s worse, severe storms have destroyed fields and even schools, bringing destruction upon what little the people here had.

Because their families are struggling, many children in Burang’a drop out of school extremely early to help provide for their parents. This has left about half the population unable to read or write. While the people here are open to the gospel, there is room to strengthen existing congregations by providing them with discipleship training.

Without clean water to drink or proper sanitation methods, disease here is rampant, and many children suffer from preventable ailments.
