Kumbi is a village of 200 households located along the Tana River. The people are subsistence farmers with some households keeping livestock such as local Galla goats. The main crops grown are mango, green bananas, cowpeas and green grams.
The village has one government school and no health facilities. The community is led by a council of village elders.
Kumbi is impacted by drought and flooding, which results in food insecurity as well as loss of life. Lack of proper nutrition often leads to disease and malnourishment among the children.
