Lkisin

Kenya

This is Lkisin

Made up of about 860 residents, Lkisin Village is located in the northern part of Kenya. They create their livelihoods through farming, mostly herding livestock. This village is home to a group of young men called Morans, protecting the community from wild animals and hostile intruders.

Life here is not without daily struggle. There aren’t safe places to find suitable drinking water, so community members are forced to share their water with livestock, leading to (normally preventable) frequent water-borne illness. Drought is also a significant struggle. Because of the lack of regular rains, very few families are able to farm–making nutrition a challenge. Many kids and adults go without enough food to eat.

Because of their daily struggle, it’s understandable that parents see education for their children as a secondary issue. Since many kids aren’t in school, only 38% of residents can read and write. Most people here are Christians, but a lack of available Bibles means that they aren’t able to deepen their faith–and many people mix traditional beliefs with Christian faith.

The families of Lkisin Village are ready for change. With your support, they will experience lasting transformation and a bright future for themselves and the next generation.
