Located in the western portion of South Sudan, Peeda village is made up of 270 households and approximately 1,620 individuals. Primarily small-scale farmers, residents of Peeda village rely on fishing the nearby river, raising chickens, and selling charcoal as a means to create livelihoods. However, families here find themselves without many of life’s basic needs.
Without proper farming equipment, agricultural training, or boats to fish with, many families in Peeda experience hunger on a regular basis and don’t have nutritious food to eat. With very little variety in their crops, the small selection of vegetables they eat leaves large gaps in their diet.
There is no church building in the village, and local pastors are not equipped with the necessary tools to share the gospel, like Bibles or discipleship training. The people in Peeda often find their children extremely sick and even dying due to water-borne diseases caused by the lack of clean drinking water because there are no wells in the village. And when they do fall ill, there is no accessible health facility or hospital to turn to.
Without a classroom or qualified teachers, most children find themselves without any formal education.
