A Story from Myanmar
Giving Food and Hope to the Displaced
Much of our work in Myanmar is providing for the displaced people who live in refugee camps. The people running these camps are often Christians and their kindness breaks through all barriers, showing the love of Christ in remarkable ways to a people who are living in extremely treacherous conditions. A 55-year-old man shared this experience with our staff:
My friend and I were working as day laborers far from home, but because of escalating conflicts there were no more job opportunities. We decided to return home because we could not stay, but our journey was stopped far from our village. Restrictions prevented us from entering a village to find food, so we sought refuge in a Christian church. The journey there took three days, and we went over mountains and through forests without any access to food. When we finally made it, the Christian church provided food that we desperately needed.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, I found myself shedding tears of sadness for the hardship endured and tears of joy upon finally being able to eat. This experience marked the first time I ate and cried simultaneously. My heartfelt thanks go out to all the compassionate individuals who supported us during this challenging period. (The person responsible at the camp echoes gratitude to those who funded the project for providing food and offering comfort in the face of hardship.)
